A Swimming Pool for Peace
Inspired by the changes in teachers and students in Distrito Italia school in El Salvador during the program in 2011, the IBREA team encouraged the school to envision a community project that could motivate everybody to work together for a shared goal. It turned out the students had been dreaming of a swimming pool on the school’s garden for a long time. So that was what we did!
IBREA supported the process of fundraising and the process of construction, and everybody in the community took on a role to transform the project into a reality. “For the first time ever” the principal shared “everybody is working together. That is something that cannot be described in words”. “Now I believe that Distrito Italia can live in peace,” he said at the opening ceremony after 1 year of fundraising and collective work. The mayor, the local government, and all the families around the area who had been rivals for years, came together and created this haven. Today, they have a tight schedule for all the kids to have their 1-hour swimming class at least once a week. This is their biggest joy.
They need your help to keep up with the running costs!
