Thriving in Harlem
Since 2014, the IBREA FOUNDATION has been teaching freshmen students at A. Philip Randolph High School in Harlem. The program is delivered inside the classroom, as part of their Intro to Humanities coursework. Students learn about their brain and body functions, emotions, resilience and perseverance, habits and neuroplasticity, focus and attention, among others. They receive both theory and practice sessions. The students have exhibited positive changes in their attendance, behavior, academic performance, and self-esteem.
IBREA is currently planning to open up a Training Center in Harlem in May 2018, to offer the program to the wider community.
An independent contractor analyzed the impact of the program in the socio-emotional condition of the students who received the program in the Spring and Fall of 2017. Results were statistically significant in all variables.
